What Happens at Edwards Stadium
Edwards Stadium Berkeley is a University of California venue for track and field and soccer. Also called Goldman Field for its soccer infield, it opened in 1932 and has listed seating for 22,000.
The stadium’s official history records 12 world records, 26 American records and 24 collegiate records hosted at the venue. The track is managed by Intercollegiate Athletics and is not currently open to the public, so plan to visit for a scheduled event rather than for casual track access.
Finding the Stadium and Event Schedule
Cal Athletics publishes a composite sports calendar, while individual team schedule pages list sport-specific events. Check the relevant team schedule as well as the calendar when planning around a particular sport; the event listing is the place to confirm the venue.
Downtown Berkeley BART is a transit option for reaching campus. From the station, continue across campus toward the stadium. For details on local routes and connections, see this guide to Berkeley public transit. For ideas beyond the stadium, browse this guide to parks in Berkeley.
Before you go, check the official site for the event schedule and current visitor information.
Tickets and Entry Requirements
Admission is free for the women’s soccer matches listed on Cal Athletics’ ticket page. Ticket arrangements can vary by event, so check the listing for the game or meet you plan to attend.
Cal Athletics says its Clear Bag Policy is not in effect at Edwards Stadium. However, the venue prohibits a range of items, including alcohol, weapons, tobacco products, glass, cans, metal bottles, hard coolers, plastic containers and umbrellas. Animals are not permitted except service dogs. Projectiles, bicycles, tricycles, skateboards, rollerblades and scooters are also prohibited.
Other restricted items include cameras with lenses over 6 inches, tripods, monopods and metal-frame seating. Review the event guidance before setting out, particularly if you plan to bring equipment or a seat.
Transit, Walking, and Parking
UC Berkeley identifies BART, AC Transit and biking as options for reaching campus, and notes that campus parking is limited.
If you choose public transport, Downtown Berkeley BART is a campus access point; you’ll need to continue across campus to reach Edwards Stadium. For a bike trip, check the event guidance for applicable venue restrictions: bicycles are prohibited inside the stadium.
The Stadium Parking Garage is at 2175 Gayley Road and offers hourly pay parking. Follow the posted signs for current parking instructions and rates.
Campus lots are open daily from 5:00 AM to 2:00 AM and closed from 2:00 AM to 5:00 AM. Allow time to park and walk across campus, especially if you are arriving close to the event start.
Accessibility and Event-Day Planning
The accessible entrance is on the south side of the field. UC Berkeley says the stadium has no permanent accessible restrooms; accessible portable toilets are frequently brought in for events. Check event information ahead of time if you need details about facilities or access arrangements.
Plan your route around the specific event, confirm ticket information and review the prohibited-items list before leaving. The track itself is not open to the public outside scheduled access, so an event listing is essential if you are making a trip to the venue.
